The Greene County softball team defeated Glidden-Ralston 12-0 despite having only one hit. The Rams lost 5-2 to Perry and 3-0 to Saydel in last week’s action.
GC is 3-9 on the season, 2-4 in Heart of Iowa Conference standings. They had a doubleheader at Roland-Story Monday of this week, hosted Adel-DeSoto-Minburn on Tuesday and travel to South Hamilton Wednesday.
Perry 5 ~ Rams 2
The Greene County softball team lost a 5-2 contest to Perry June 8 on the Jayettes’ field in non-conference action. Perry posted two runs in the first and third innings, aided by four Ram errors. Emma Hoyle cracked a two-run double in the third to tie the score 2-2. She had the only other hit for Greene County, a single in the sixth. The Jayettes added a run in the fifth to win 5-2.
Hoyle worked the mound to yield five runs, one earned, on five hits. She walked two batters, hit two and fanned five.
Rams 8 ~ Nevada 2
Greene County defeated Nevada 8-2 in HOIC action June 9 in Jefferson. The Rams got bats cracking in the fourth inning when they scored four runs. They added four more in the sixth before the Cubs scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Winning pitcher Emma Hoyle helped that outcome with a grand slam home run in the fourth inning. She also doubled for five RBIs on the night. Alexa Peters and Karissa Stephenson each rapped two singles, Peters for an RBI. Grace Hardaway added an RBI single while Emma Stream, Paige Teeples and Olivia Shannon had base hits.
Hoyle allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits while walking three and striking out nine batters. The Rams had two errors.
Rams 12 ~ G-R 0
Greene County added a mark in the win column Thursday, June 10, defeating Glidden-Ralston 12-0 in three innings on the Jefferson diamond. The Rams scored 10 times in the second inning despite collecting no hits. The Wildcats have a very young team that includes five freshmen on the varsity team. Two freshmen pitchers gave up six walks and hit five batters as Greene County rounded the bases. The Wildcats also had five errors. Karissa Stephenson claimed the only hit for the Rams, a hard-hit ball off the glove of the third baseman, scoring the 12th run and ending the game.
Emma Hoyle was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out five batters.
Saydel 3 ~ Rams 0
Greene County visited Saydel in Des Moines Friday night, June 11, where they lost 3-0. The Eagles scored a run in the third and two in the fifth while shutting out the Rams.
The Rams had just four hits, all singles by Carmyn Paup, Emma Hoyle, Kaylee Stalder, and Grace Hardaway.
Hoyle pitched the loss although she gave up only one earned run on five hits and one walk while striking out two. The team committed three errors.
